Pleasure craft license
Any pleasure craft equipped, even temporarily, with one or more engines with a total power of at least 10 horsepower (7.5 kW) must obtain a pleasure craft license before being used in Canada, unless it is registered in the Canadian Vessel Registration Register.
The pleasure craft license is a document with a unique number, which must be displayed on both sides of the bow of the boat. This permit is similar to a car number plate and allows police and search and rescue personnel to access important information in an emergency. If your pleasure craft does not have a valid license or is not registered, you risk a fine of $250. The pleasure craft license, valid for 10 years, is not proof of ownership. You can check the expiration date of your license using your license number.
